In early 2016 we launched our new initiative with adult walking football, which has become a big hit. We are now backed by two local councils and Age UK meaning the project can be taken to the next level.
Walking football is a slow-paced version of the beautiful game, aimed at getting players back involved in sport. Our sessions are available to adult men and women of all ages and the game is ideal for over 50's, those coming back from injury and those with lack of mobility for whatever reason. Our sessions are great fun with our team of vastly experienced and highly qualified coaches, headed by Leicester City Legend Matt Elliott.
Walking Football is designed to help people keep an active lifestyle despite their age, as well as getting those back playing football who had to stop due to injuries. Simply playing 1 hour each week for 3 months enables players to cover 30 miles and burn 4,200 calories! As the name suggests, Walking Football is non-contact and anyone that sprints, runs or jogs while the ball is in play is penalised with a free-kick awarded to the other team. The game is played on a pitch 20/40 yards in length and 15/30 yards in width, with the game re-started via a kick, roll or throw in.
We currently run two sessions in Markfield every Tuesday:
- Morning Session 10.30-11.30am
- Evening Session 18.30-19.30pm
